Staff in Our Destinations

Projects Abroad offers unparalleled overseas back-up for our volunteers worldwide. We employ more than 300 staff who are there to help you settle in and support you throughout your stay.

In every destination we have a Country Director and a staffed office. The staff in our destinations have a wealth of local knowledge and all our Country Directors have received training in Britain or the US and understand the needs of our volunteers. They are available by day at the local office, or 24 hours a day by phone.

Guillermo Alejandro Cogorno - Country Director

Guillermo Alejandro Cogorno - Country Director

Guillermo was born in Cordoba and studied Business Administration at Cordoba National University. He joined Projects Abroad in December 2009. Guillermo has a wide range of international and educational work experience including teaching economic policy at Cordoba University and a post as the National President of AIESEC Argentina (International Association for Student Exchanges). He has also arranged student exchange programmes in Japan, France and the USA.

Ariel Moreira - Desk Officer

Ariel Moreira - Desk Officer

Ariel joined Projects Abroad in June 2009. He grew up in Unquillo, Córdoba, where he lives with his family, so he is well placed to answer any questions you may have about your trip. Ariel studied English Translation and Psychology at the State University of Córdoba. In his free time he enjoys listening to music, playing the piano and going out with friends.

Ines Mariani - Volunteer Manager

Ines joined Projects Abroad in April 2007. She lives in Cordoba where she is studying tourism. She likes meeting people from all over the world and loves travelling. In her free time she enjoys being with friends, having barbecues with her family, reading novels and watching movies.

Sofia Mignacca - Volunteer Coordinator

Sofia joined Projects Abroad in November 2009. She has lived in Cordoba for five years; she moved there from a small town to study English Translation at the State University. She is very fond of music and literature and enjoys meeting people from all around the world, sharing different points of views and learning about other cultures.

Vanessa joined Projects Abroad in January 2010. She arrived in Cordoba as a Projects Abroad volunteer in October 2009. Vanessa is from France originally and has a degree in languages and economics. She enjoys music, literature and meeting people from around the world during her travels.

Daniela Viljoen - Country Director

Daniela Viljoen - Country Director

Daniela has been working with Projects Abroad since August 2002. Born in Cochabamba, but having lived mostly in the United States, Daniela returned to Bolivia in 1996 to be with her family. Completing her studies in Linguistics at UMSS and graduating in 2001 with honors, she is now also a founding member of the School of Linguists and Modern Languages. Although Daniela misses teaching, she enjoys working and getting to know volunteers on a day to day basis. Crafts and travelling are her favorite hobbies!

Carmen Herbas - Desk Officer

Carmen Herbas - Desk Officer

Carmen has worked with Projects Abroad since 2003. Originally from La Paz, Carmen moved to Cochabamba with her parents and brothers in 1998. Carmen is a graduate of the Linguistics Department of UMSS and enjoys spending her free time reading and with her son, Adrian. Carmen will be the main contact for volunteers before they arrive, happily answering all pre-departure questions.

Ximena Noya - Project Supervisor

Ximena Noya - Project Supervisor

Ximena began working with Projects Abroad in 2004, assisting in everything imaginable! She has now been working as Projects Supervisor since 2005. Born in Cochabamba, Ximena has also lived in Argentina. She has completed her studies at the UMSS, also in Linguistics and Communications. Ximena thoroughly enjoys listening to her "walkman" while riding buses out to supervise volunteers at their placement! She also enjoys photography and travelling.

Freddy Mita - Care Project Supervisor

Freddy Mita - Care Project Supervisor

Freddy was born in Potosi. He has worked supporting social projects involving abandoned children or children with special needs since 2003. He is a specialist in Braille and sign language. Freddy loves to play sports such as soccer, basketball and volleyball. He is a gifted musician and plays the guitar, charango and flute. He joined Projects Abroad in May 2008 as Care Supervisor and is always full of exciting new ideas for volunteers.

Alejandra Estrada - USA Travel Coordinator

Alejandra Estrada - USA Travel Coordinator

Alejandra began working with Projects Abroad in July 2006. She was born in Cochabamba and comes from a large family. She studied Arts and Music at University and soon after graduating travelled abroad to teach English at a Red Cross Refugee camp in Belgium. Alejandra speaks 5 languages, English, Spanish, French, Dutch and a little bit of Russian. She is currently studying Linguistics at the University in Cochabamba and enjoys reading, writing, music, photography and travelling.

Ana Silvia Ramos M. - USA Travel Coordinator

Ana Silvia Ramos M. - USA Travel Coordinator

Ana Silvia was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She began working with Projects Abroad in 2004 as a student teacher through the agreement we have with the Universidad Mayor de San Simón, teaching volunteers Spanish. After finishing her studies, she began working full time in May 2007. Ana Silvia enjoys meeting new people and travelling.

Juan Jiménez - Medical Project Supervisor

Juan Jiménez - Medical Project Supervisor

Juan, or as we better him, Pety, began working with Projects Abroad as Medical Supervisor in January 2008. He was born in Cochabamba and completed his studies in Dentistry at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón and did his internship in Centro de Salud Alto Cochabamba. Juan also finished his postgraduate studies in Buenos Aires in Pediatric Dentistry. He is a member of the Scouts Association of Bolivia since 1994 and enjoys spending his time with his family and friends.

Deborah Santos - Country Director

Deborah Santos - Country Director

Deborah was born and raised in Rio. After high school she was selected by the American Embassy in Brazil to spend two weeks in the USA as a youth ambassador. The experience was so good that she returned to the USA one year later to attend college. After completing her studies in International Relations and Politics she worked as a tutor for high school students in Boston. Deb likes to cook with her friends and to stay up late blogging.

Pises Mao - Country Director

Pises Mao - Country Director

Pises took over as Director for Cambodia in October 2008. Prior to joining Projects Abroad, Pises was an Interim Country Director for Digital Divide Data, a social enterprise that provides opportunities for disadvantaged adults, orphans, rural migrants and people with disabilities. Pises graduated with a degree in Human Resources Management from Maharishi Vedic University and gained a MBA from the Pannasastra University of Cambodia. In his free time Pises enjoys going to the gym.

Chhoy Nareth - Assistant Director & Desk Officer

Chhoy Nareth - Assistant Director & Desk Officer

Nareth started working with Projects Abroad in Cambodia in August 2007 after working for a year with the Cambodian NGO Care International. She has also worked as an accountant and secretary with a Japan Construction Company and volunteered with the Khmer Institute for Development in Kampong Cham Province. Nareth is currently in her fourth year at the Cambodian Mekong University faculty of Finance and Banking.

Phen Sophan - Assistant Manager

Sophan has been working as Assistant Manager in Cambodia with Projects Abroad since May 2006. He is studying Business Administration at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh. Sophan initially started working as a driver for Projects Abroad; he has also worked as a waiter and spent two years working in Malaysia. Sophan assists Petro, making sure that all our projects run smoothly in Phnom Penh and he enjoys his new role of working closely with volunteers from all over the world.

Sython Sun - Assistant Manager - Khmer Projects

Sython Sun - Assistant Manager - Khmer Projects

After graduating from high school, Sython studied for a degree in archaeology at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. He then worked in Siem Reap carrying out conservation and restoration work at Angkor National Museum. He joined Projects Abroad in Phnom Penh in December 2007. In his free time he enjoys reading and playing sports like football and swimming.

Has Sophourn - Volunteer Coordinator

Phourn as he is known joined the team at Projects Abroad in July 2008. He has a degree in French and has worked as a teacher of both French and English and in IT. Phourn speaks fluent French and will be working closely with the French volunteers in Cambodia. In his free time he enjoys running and swimming and is trained in traditional singing and classical music.

Mok Sopheakvattey - Accountant and Administrator

Vattey is studying English Literature and Accountancy in Phnom Penh, whilst assisting the Cambodian team with accounting, budgeting and administration. She worked as a cashier and receptionist before joining Projects Abroad in May 2007. She enjoys having the chance to practice her English and learn about new cultures form the volunteers.

Chamroeun Mao - General Assistant

Chamroeun Mao - General Assistant

Chamroeun joined Projects Abroad in July 2007 and he is likely to be the first of our staff that you meet in Cambodia, as he does the majority of airport pick-ups. Chamroeun also helps out with a variety of organisational and administrative tasks both in and out of the office. He enjoys meeting volunteers from all over the world and loves having the chance to practise his English.

Xu Kay - Country Director

Kay studied at the University of London before joining our Projects Abroad team in Shanghai. She is originally from North West China. In her spare time she enjoys badminton and going to the gym.

Born and raised in Shanghai Lily is in charge of finding our volunteers comfortable flats to live in during their time in Shanghai. She is also a jack-of-all-trades and can fix anything from a blocked toilet to a broken light bulb!

Michael Meng - Project Manager

Michael Meng - Project Manager

Michael has been working for Projects Abroad since June 2009. Michael’s role is to help arrange each volunteer’s project before they arrive in Shanghai; he then ensures that they are happy with their work and is available to offer any advice. Michael graduated with a degree in English and has worked for several years for local businesses in Shanghai; in particular he has experience in the field of marketing.

Teddy began working for Projects Abroad in March 2008, having just graduated with a degree in English. Teddy will be the main contact for volunteers before they arrive, happily answering all pre-departure questions.

Danny Wang - Volunteer Coordinator

Danny began working for Projects Abroad in June 2009, having recently graduated from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. In addition to being fluent in English, Danny also speaks some Japanese. Danny will be on hand to assist volunteers throughout the duration of their time in China.

Leon Liu - Volunteer Coordinator

Leon helps out with everything! His main role is to collect the volunteers from the airport and help with visa extensions, but he also regularly visits the volunteers at work or at their accommodation.

Wendy Wei - Administrator

Wendy has been working in the Shanghai office for several years. She is in charge of all the accounts, arranging the food and transport allowance and is also involved in allocating volunteers to their accommodation.

Kevin Dennis - Assistant Country Manager

Kevin Dennis - Assistant Country Manager

Kevin graduated in Marketing & Media Communications in the UK, then moved to China with the British Council as an English teacher in 2006. Kevin joined Projects Abroad in January 2010. His role is to ensure that volunteers are happy at work and to arrange regular social activities for all the volunteers. In his spare time Kevin enjoys music, travel, films, books and learning new things.

Luis Arguedas - Country Director

Luis joined Projects Abroad in July 2006 and has both Canadian and Costa Rican citizenship. Luis speaks English, French and Spanish and before joining the Costa Rica team he worked at the National University of Costa Rica teaching tourism and business administration. In his free time Luis enjoys going to the beach, cycling, watching movies and playing the saxophone.

Carmen Baldioceda - Desk Officer

Carmen is Costa Rican and joined Projects Abroad in May 2007. She studied tourism and has travelled widely whilst working in an international sales role. Carmen also lived permanently in the USA for three years. She loves swimming, scuba diving and horse back riding.

Victor joined the Costa Rica team in January 2010 after working for three years in Toronto and New Mexico. Victor is based in Liberia and is mainly involved with our teaching community projects and host families. He enjoys intercultural experiences and working face to face with the local community and the volunteers.

Richard joined the Costa Rica team in November 2008 after working for three years at the Conservation Project in Peru. Richard is based at Barra Honda National Park and is involved in the daily work arrangements for volunteers and the long term planning for the project.

Oscar previously worked at Barra Honda for 8 years as a cave guide. Since March 2009 he has been working directly with Projects Abroad in the park. With his amazing local knowledge of the park he is able to answer any questions you may have. He also knows the people in the surrounding area very well, so is always helpful in organising work and trips out of the park.

Sami, as he's known, joined Projects Abroad in January 2007. He worked as a teacher since 2002 and was the vice director of his last school, Oumer Semeter Primary School. Previously he completed a degree in geography and was most recently deputy director of a vocational training centre.

Bikesegn Haileleul - Social Manager

Bikesegn studied for a BA in business administration at Addis Ababa University before going on to graduate as an English Language teacher from Kotebe College of Teacher Education. Before joining Projects Abroad at the end of 2007, Bikesegn worked at the international airport and at a computer training centre teaching computer skills. In his spare time, Bikesegn enjoys reading and using computers.

Weini started working for Projects Abroad in April 2009. Her main role is to help you prepare for your trip to Ethiopia, answering any questions you may have and giving you detailed information about your project and accommodation. Before working for Projects Abroad, Weini lived for five years in Italy and Norway. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Bharati Vidiyapeeth, Pune, India.

Before working as Director of Fiji, Saula worked as a consultant in Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu for 9 years, overseeing projects in different villages for a non-profit organization based in the U.S. He moved to Nadi with Grace and their children in April 2009 after living in Suva for most of his life.

Grace Vodonaivalu - Desk Officer

Before becoming Desk Officer with Projects Abroad in May 2009, Grace spent her time volunteering in villages and communities in Fiji. Grace and Saula have three children and they enjoy socializing reading and traveling. Grace will be your main contact before you arrive in Fiji, answering all of your questions and providing you with information about your project and accommodation.

Heather is from Victoria, BC Canada and has a BA in French & Linguistics. Before coming to Fiji as Assistant Country Manager in January 2010 she volunteered with Projects Abroad in Senegal in 2007 and then worked for Projects Abroad in Mexico (2008) and Ghana (2009). In her free time Heather enjoys travelling, photography, and running.

Tom Davis - Country Director

Tom took over as our Ghana Director in October 2006 and is based in Accra. Originally from a village near Cape Coast, Tom and his wife Julie lived in London for ten years where Tom worked on the London Underground, before returning to Ghana to set up home in Accra. He has worked for Projects Abroad since 1998, and knows all of our placements very well.

Emmanuel Abaaja - Regional Coordinator - Akuapem Hills

Emmanuel is responsible for our placements and volunteers in the Akuapem Hills region. 30-year-old Emmanuel holds a BSc from Legon University in Accra, and joined Teaching & Projects Abroad in December 2002 after completing his national service as a teacher. He is a very active member of the church near his home in Nungua and a proud father to daughter Lois. Emmanuel is always remembered for his welcome songs which he sings to all new volunteers!

Our Cape Coast Regional Coordinator is 28-year-old Grant Appiah. Grant grew up in Cape Coast, and holds a BSc in Tourism from the town's University. He joined the Projects Abroad team in May 2003, and established many of the placements we now operate in this region. Grant meets all volunteers on arrival in Cape Coast and will then show you around the town on your induction.

Kwame Nyameror (Nyame) - Volunteer Coordinator

Kwame Nyameror, or Nyame as he is usually known has many duties including meeting volunteers at the airport and accompanying volunteers from Accra to the region where they will be living. He has also become our unofficial Twi teacher, and is always a smiling face around the Accra office.

Eric Delle - Office Assistant

He assists with all variety of tasks at our Head Office in Accra from collecting post, sending host and placement letters to organising quiz nights and the monthly volunteer’s party. He is good source of local information for volunteers.

Rebecca Abuaku - Accounts and Administration Manager

Rebecca Abuaku - Accounts and Administration Manager

Rebecca is based in our Head Office in Accra. She is responsible for all the accounts and administrative work generated by our Ghana programme. She grew up in Accra and holds a degree Accounting and Management from a local university in Cape Coast. She used to work with an NGO as Human Resource Manger before joining Projects Abroad in January 2007.

Gabriel Ayeh-Fianko - Assistant Co-ordinator - Kumasi

Gabriel Ayeh-Fianko - Assistant Co-ordinator - Kumasi

Gabriel is in charge of our programs in Kumasi, and does inductions, monitoring and introduces volunteers to their placements. He grew up in Koforidua and holds an NHD in Marketing. He was working in Accra as a Customer Service Officer before joining Projects Abroad in 2006.

Kwasi Acheampong - Regional Co-ordinator - Ho

Kwasi Acheampong - Regional Co-ordinator - Ho

Kwasi is the Regional Coordinator for Ho in our newest region in the Volta. A popular figure amongst the volunteers he has worked over the last two summers helping out with the two week special programs. A self-motivated graduate from the University of East Legon, Kwasi is currently busy learning the regional language of the Voltarians, Ewe.

Nooshin Shabani - Assistant Country Manager

Nooshin took over as Assistant Country Manager in August 2008, she is based in Accra. Her role is to show volunteers staying in Accra around the city and to introduce them to their placements. This is Nooshin’s second time in Ghana after volunteering in Accra in 2004. Nooshin has recently graduated with a degree in Journalism from Sunderland University.

Vera took over as Desk Officer in August 2009 and is responsible for answering all volunteers' emails before they arrive, and making sure you are all ready for life in Ghana. Vera is a native Ghanaian and has lived her whole life in Ghana. Vera is an Associate member of the Institute for the Management of Information System (IMIS). Her hobbies are swimming and salsa dancing.

Richard K. O. Atiemo - Assistant Accounts and Administrative Manager

Richard assists with the accounts and administrative work in Ghana. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accounting from Sunyani Polytechnic in Brong Ahafo region. He has been working with Projects Abroad since June 2009.

Fynn holds a first degree in Geography and Resource Development from University of Ghana, Legon- Accra. He is responsible for all the placements and volunteers in Accra. He has been working with Projects Abroad since November 2008.

Bridget A. Gamli - Records Officer

Bridget worked with Ghana Commercial Bank in Accra before joining Projects Abroad in November 2007. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Economics. She is responsible for preparing all the placements and accommodation spreadsheets, scanning de-briefing forms and updating the staff and volunteers’ records in the Head Office in Accra.

Mike has been working with Projects Abroad since January 2009. He assists with the airport pick-ups and subsequent transportation of the volunteers to the various regions.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Ghana, Accra, and has several years of clinical and research work experience. He was working with the Ghana Health Service as Senior Staff before joining Projects Abroad in December 2008. He is responsible for all the medical placements and medical volunteers in the Ghana.

Anthony has been working with Projects Abroad since November 2008. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and Economics from the University of Cape Coast. Anthony assists with all the placements and volunteers in the Ashanti Region.

Mircea is taking a break from his role as Director of Romania to help out in India for a few months. Mircea has worked in many of our overseas and recruitment destinations including the UK, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Ethiopia, Moldova and most recently Argentina. However, India is his favourite destination and he is pleased to have the chance to return there once again.

Jason Fong - Deputy Director

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Jason travelled and worked his way through Africa and Asia before working with Projects Abroad. After a stint in the Shanghai office, Jason joined Projects Abroad India as Deputy Director. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis, running, and travelling.

Sangamithra Krishnamoorthi - Programme Manager

Sangamithra Krishnamoorthi - Programme Manager

Sangamithra has been working Projects Abroad since April 2009. After working with Greenpeace for a year, she joined our team as a Programme Manager. She is on hand to assist volunteers before and throughout their stay in India. Sangamithra’s hobbies include taking care of her cat Puja and reading. One of her claims of fame is being awarded a distinction from the late President K. R. Narayan.

Nirmala Periasamy - Medicine Programme Manager

Nirmala has been working with Projects Abroad since May 2009 after being a nurse and midwife for 4 years in Vellore. As the Programme Manager for Medicine, she will be the main contact for medical volunteers before and during their stay in India. Her hobbies include shopping, travelling, cooking, and playing video games.

Dass has been working with Projects Abroad for almost two years. As the Teaching Coordinator, he offers support for volunteers throughout their stay. Previously he was a chemistry teacher in Manipur in Northeastern India. He enjoys spending time with his family and his new daughter Jobitha.

Austin Sudhakar Solomon - Medical Coordinator

Austin has been working for Projects Abroad since August 2003. Since finishing his English Literature course he has worked as our Journalism Project Co-ordinator and during 2005 as our Tsunami Project Co-ordinator. He is now enjoying his new role assisting with our medical projects. In his spare time, Austin enjoys reading books and playing football. He is currently working on his post-grad in English Literature.

Ravi Sankar Selvaraj - Medical Coordinator

Ravi started working with Projects Abroad as a Medical Coordinator in July 2008. He completed his MBA in systems at the Madurai Kamaraj Univeristy after a degree in Commerce. As the Medical Coordinator, Ravi takes volunteers to their placements and meets them at the airport. In his spare time, Ravi enjoys working on his computer and playing sports.

Nadia joined Projects Abroad after finishing her degree in Engineering at the Avinashilingum University in Coimbatore. Pandi started working for Projects Abroad in July 2001 and is now the co-ordinator for our Care projects. He previously spent time managing the Conservation project and maintains a high level of interest in this area, supporting projects like tree planting and other environmental initiatives. After leaving his post as a journalist in Chennai, Ezhil joined Projects Abroad in April 2009. Madhan has been working with Projects Abroad since September 2008, after obtaining his MBA. Bridgette B. Barrett - Country Director

Bridgette joined Projects Abroad in April 2008. She was born and raised in Manchester, Jamaica. She has a MSc. in Sociology and Social Psychology and is currently pursing her Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and Community Development. Before joining Projects Abroad she worked as a research assistant, training and community development consultant for local and international agencies from her own home-based company. She likes interior decorating, car racing and driving to different parts of the island. She is a mini cooper fanatic and domino enthusiast.

Andrew joined Projects Abroad in July 2008, bringing years of experience in community development and banking. He was born and raised in Manchester, Jamaica. He is a cheerful, fun-loving, people-person who enjoys playing soccer, cooking and playing musical instruments. He is actively involved in youth development and is the church organist at his local congregation. Andrew recently married Tamara and cannot wait to add a soccer team to their family.

Jonatan joined Projects Abroad in March 2003. Throughout this time he has been involved in all kinds of work in both Mexico and other destinations such as Argentina, Senegal, India and Ghana, from collecting volunteers at the airport to setting up new projects. Jonatan has studied graphic design and music. Currently he manages to combine his work with his band. He also enjoys socializing with the volunteers.

Carlos was born in the north of the country in the estate of Sonora then moved to Guadalajara to study graphic design. After studying he had a number of jobs related to his career before joining Projects Abroad in November 2004. He has been involved with all aspects of the program in Mexico and worked in Argentina for Projects Abroad in 2009. He is a big fan of illustration, cinema and music.

Rocio’s family has been receiving volunteers since 2008. She is a professional photographer. Jous was born in Ciudad Guzman and has lived all his life there, his family is one of the oldest in the city so he is well know in all the town. Jous has been an 'official' member of staff for over 6 years regularly taking volunteers under his wing to make sure they settle into life in Cd. Guzman. Since the beginning of 2005, he officially become part of our team and his dedication and work have improved all our projects in Cd. Guzman. He loves music, makes and plays the didgeridoo an ancient aborigine instrument and one of his favourite drinks is the coconut water.

Oliver is an experienced diver who has worked for two years in la Paz Baja California in the north of Mexico as manager of a diving school while he was also studying marine biology. Dr. Jesus Navarro has been involved with Projects Abroad for many years first by providing medical attention to sick volunteers and through organising medical campaigns in rural areas and inviting volunteers to help. Saad was born in Fes and grew up in Rabat. He has previously worked as a psychologist for the American Peace Corps in Morocco and was also an Exchange Coordinator for the U.S. State Department where he organised cultural exchanges between American and Moroccan youth. Saad has taught Arabic and English at various International Schools and Embassies in Morocco.

Sajani has made volunteering her life. Before joining Projects Abroad she volunteered first and then ended up working for "Educate the Children", an American charity. She still spends much of her spare time volunteering for various different social charities. Her main hope is to improve the education level of poor Nepali children. Sajani has travelled widely in the UK, USA and Thailand.

Irazema is the person in charge when Tim is not around. Born and raised in Cusco, she is a pre-school teacher who has also studied business administration. Tess first became involved with Projects Abroad in the summer of 2007 when she volunteered in Mexico on Teaching and Care programmes. Americo joined Projects Abroad part time in 2003 as a taxi driver and worked his way up to looking after volunteer logistics and working as the Inca Projects Assistant Manager. Americo was born and raised in Sicre in the cloud forest, about 8 kilometres from Huyro, where our Inca programme is based. He loves cars, animals and outdoor activities. His wife Isidora cooks for the Inca Project volunteers.

Daniel was a volunteer on the Inca Projects for three months from May 2007 before returning in September to join the staff team as our supervisor for the Inca Projects. He works with the volunteers on each of the different areas of the project, from community work to excavations and expeditions.

Stuart Timson - Director

Stuart is from Cheltenham, England, but has been living and working in Peru since 1998. He studied Biology at Oxford University before getting involved with conservation in the field. After spending several years guiding for eco-lodges in both Peru and Bolivia he set up the Taricaya Lodge on the Madre de Dios river from scratch in 2001. In his spare time Stuart can turn his hand to most sports.

An ex-gold miner now dedicated to conservation, Fernando administers the day-to-day running of the lodge. He is the longest serving staff member there from the start with Stuart. His English is excellent and his 20 years of experience in the jungle gives him great all round knowledge. His family in Puerto Maldonado runs a small hotel where volunteers usually spend the weekend.

Elvira joined the Projects Abroad team in January 2010 after returning from five years living in the USA. She is originally from Lima where she used to work in a travel agency. Before moving to the US she had a family run hotel and restaurant business in Puerto Maldonado, so she knows the town well. Elvira will be in touch with all Conservation volunteers before they arrive in Peru and she also meets many of the volunteers at the airport.

Since he started working for Projects Abroad five years ago, Mircea has gained experience in England, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Ethiopia, Romania, Moldova and, not in the least, in his favourite country, India. A man of eclectic tastes, Mircea loves comparative literature and religion, riding motorcycles and playing tennis, but most of all, he is fascinated by the way travelling forces him to constantly re-invent his world.

Jozsef studied Archaeology at university in Cluj-Napoca before gaining a Masters Degree in Archaeology in Alba Iulia. He has taken part in many archaeological digs covering the period from the Bronze Age to modern day. He has also worked at the National History Museum of Transylvania and at the Lewes Historical Society in the USA.

Razvan is in charge of the Conservation and Veterinary Projects. As a professional Forestry Engineer, he feels at ease with any subject linked to alpine and sub-alpine wildlife. He is also a passionate reader and only spending time with his family can take him away from his job or his books.

Daniela completed a degree in psychology-pedagogy in Brasov in 2004. She discovered her passion for psihcology in highschool, when she first got in touch with this discipline. Her favourite courses were those concerning education for children with mental and physical disabilities. After college she started working with people with social disorders and now she takes care of the children in orphanages along with the Projects Abroad volunteers.

Alexandra graduated from the Faculty of Literature and Languages in 2008. She loves travel, meeting people from different cultures and learning new languages. Her role as drama supervisor is to guide and coordinate both the volunteers and the high school students in all the drama activities. Moctar first joined the team in Senegal as a French/English translator, but he soon fell in love with Projects Abroad and took over as Country Director in April 2007. Banda is a familiar face in the town of St Louis. He grew up in Sor on the mainland and today his family continues to live there in their large family house. Before joining Projects Abroad in May 2007 he worked as a waiter in a Senegalese restaurant and began training as a masseur. In his free time not only does Banda enjoy playing soccer but can also be found most days running along the beach on the Langue de Barbarie.

Alex was born and raised in Senegal, West Africa before moving to Florida in the US when he was 10 years old. He then attended Florida Atlantic University, where he studied Political Science. Lucinda Evans - Teaching and Care Operations Manager

Lucinda is a mother of two, Caitlin and Liam, and her husband Frank works for Ambulance services in Cape Town. She has been passionately involved in social development most of her life and created her own NGO aimed at women and children empowerment over a year ago. She joined Projects Abroad initially as a host mother in 2007.

Theodore Kamwimbi - Human Rights Project Manager

Theodore Kamwimbi is a Congolese lawyer who has studied in Kinshasa and the University of Cape Town, and specializes in International Human Rights Law. Before joining Projects Abroad he worked as migrancy researcher and as a lawyer for the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation in Cape Town. With experience from a variety of African countries on some high profile projects, Theo is now using this experience and motivation to drive forward our Human Rights initiative in Cape Town.

Gerrit Prinsloo - Conservation Director

Gerrit Prinsloo - Conservation Director

Gerrit grew up in the heart of the bush in South Africa, raising over 200 snakes on a farm with his father, before his passion for wildlife led him to study Nature Conservation at the University of South Africa in Pretoria. He speaks fluent Twsana, his native Africaans, and English, and has been working with volunteers for five years. In his spare time he enjoys simply living in Botswana - the land without fences, amongst the wildlife.

Matt was born in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa. After school he did a photography course and then left to work in the UK, but returned with a happy heart to Africa. Matt has a passion for music and different cultures; he can speak 5 languages including Afrikaans, English and Zulu. Matt has been working at Legodimo for over a year now and has started a few of his own projects, including the greenhouse project. Matt is a very important part of the Legodimo team and is also an amazing chef!

Rachel was one of our first volunteers on the Peru Conservation project in 2002. She returned to Peru in 2004 as a member of staff before moving to the South Africa Conservation project in 2010. Rachel has a degree in biology.

Mieke Prinsloo - Conservation Desk Officer

Mieke has been exposed to the bushveld from a very young age as her parents own a game farm close to the border of Botswana. She was born in Johannesburg but lives at Legodimo full-time with her husband, Gerrit (Project Director) and their dog, Zen. She is busy with a degree in psychology through an open-university called Unisa. Mieke has a burning desire to conserve as much of this beautiful planet as possible and loves working with volunteers from different cultures and backgrounds.

Jannie was born and grew up on the reserve at Legodimo. He has lived here his entire life and raised twelve children. No-one knows this reserve better than him!

Having been recommended by one of the schools we worked with, Shyamalee has been in charge of the Sri Lanka project for the last couple of years. Outside work, Shymalee and her husband are well known for their dancing skills and have won a whole host of trophies!

Ligaya Kaluarachchi - Alumni Manager

Ligaya, a native from the Philippines, became a member of our Sri Lankan team in January 2005. She moved to Sri Lanka in 2001 after marrying a Sri Lankan. As the Alumni Manager Ligaya manages the Social Media Centre and coordinates alumni related activities. She is in touch with volunteers when they finish their placements and helps develop our alumni volunteer network. Ligaya enjoys spending time with her family and is kept busy looking after her cheeky four year old son.

Charley Perera - Project Coordinator

Charley - "Lokka" joined Projects Abroad Sri Lanka in February 2003 when it was a new destination. "We just want to make volunteers happy" is his motto and he doesn't mind driving late at night or early in the morning to meet volunteers at the airport or at their host families. Charley also sets up new placements and finds new host families.

Gishan became part of the Sri Lankan team in May 2006. He is a very versatile, enthusiastic person and had experience working in many different fields like IT, Agriculture, Travel & Tourism, before he joined Projects Abroad. As the Desk Officer Gishan will be your first contact to the country. He is happy to share his first hand experience of getting accustomed to the Sri Lankan way of life.

Jason Fong - Country Director

Born and raised in Toronto, Jason has been working with Projects Abroad for the past two years in China and India. He joined the team in Tanzania in March 2010. When he’s not break dancing at Via Via, you’ll find Jason introducing volunteers to their placements, showing them around Arusha and developing new projects.

Herman Sanka - Program Development Officer

Herman joined Projects Abroad in April 2009. He was born and raised in an area of Tanzania called Manyara. He has an MBA, which he obtained through a joint-degree programme run by the Maastricht School of Management and the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute in Arusha. Before joining Projects Abroad he worked in Arusha as a Human Resources Manager for the Catholic Church. His main hobby is reading.

Eliafura joined the Projects Abroad team in Tanzania in December 2009. She is Danish and Tanzanian and has lived in both countries. In June 2009 Eliafura graduated from Copenhagen Business School with a degree in Information Management. She likes music and arts, and has enjoyed exploring both Asia and East Africa.

Glory joined Projects Abroad in June 2010 as our new Program Coordinator. She shows volunteers around Arusha as well as introducing them to their placements. Glory has previously spent a year in Germany as a volunteer and has a good command of the language. She is best known around the office for her professional attire, ever-changing hairdos, and love of chocolate.

Constantine, or Regan as he is known, joined Projects Abroad in May 2010. He is usually the first Projects Abroad face you see at the airport. He also introduces volunteers to their host families. Regan used to work as a chef at a local hotel and is famous for his Regani pizza. His hobbies include watching football, cooking and karaoke.

Parichart Chaipikul (Ant) - Director for Teaching and Care

Ant started working as the Director of our teaching and care projects in July 2007 after moving to Krabi from Chang Mai. She used to work in the shipping business. She is enjoying her new role working with people from all over the world and in her free time likes travel, photography and spending time with her boyfriend.

Marie Goarin - Director for Conservation

Marie Goarin - Director for Conservation

Marie joined Projects Abroad in October 2007 as Field Coordinator and was promoted to Director for Conservation in June 2008. Marie is from France but studied Marine Science at university in Scotland and has been involved in conservation and environmental education projects in France, Australia and Malaysia. Marie is a very experienced diver and qualified as a PADI Dive Instructor in April 2010, she is also a qualified recompression chamber operator. She enjoys most outdoor and aquatic activities, in particular camping and scuba diving.

Kingkan Jitlang - Teaching & Care Desk Officer and Coordinator

Kingkan, or Dear as she is known, is originally from Nakorn Srithammart in southern Thailand but she has lived in Bangkok for almost 10 years to complete her degree and work. Before joining Projects Abroad she worked with the foundation for AIDS research. She loves to spend her time after work enjoying adventure activities such as trekking.

Chane was born in Thailand but lived in the USA for over 15 years. She returned to Thailand in January 1998 to be with her family. Chane has previously worked as an English Teacher and Sales Agent for a Shrimp Export Company. Chane joined Projects Abroad Thailand in August 2003. She loves to help people and has made many friends from working with Projects Abroad. She can’t wait to meet you!

Lee Allberry - Volunteer Coordinator

Lee joined Projects Abroad as a volunteer in December 2008; in that time he did over 70 dives and quickly became fascinated with the underwater environment and the conservation aims of Projects Abroad. After traveling in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia for 3 months, he returned to Thailand to qualify as a divemaster, which he achieved in August 2009. In October 2009 Lee joined the Thailand team as a member of staff. Lee enjoys all sorts of outdoor activities such as rockclimbing, hiking, running, swimming and of course, scuba diving.

Mr Kwame Wayo Adzakpa joined Projects Abroad in March 2008 as Director for Togo. Before this he worked as a full time English teacher. Kwame studied English language teaching in the UK and has experience working with volunteers. He likes writing short stories and English Grammar brochures.
