International Volunteer Opportunities for College Students with Projects Abroad

Volunteer with newborn in Mexico

Projects Abroad offers a huge variety of international volunteer programs and internships for college students in twenty developing countries around the world. Working overseas as a volunteer while still in college has greatly increased in popularity in recent years. Your time volunteering can help make a difference in other people’s lives, and it can really enhance your resume and future career prospects as well; for example on one of our voluntary internship work-experience placements in Business or Law.

With our minimum volunteering time being just one month, and with totally flexible start-dates, you can fit a voluntary project into summer or winter vacation periods.

Volunteering Overseas as an Undergraduate Student

Volunteering on a Projects Abroad placement is a fantastic way to complement your undergraduate degree. Many students are required to spend a time away as part of their degree – a Medical Elective for example – and our volunteering opportunities will guarantee you have a productive and enjoyable time, while removing all your organizational worries.

Alternatively you could volunteer on a placement as part of a study tour, or to improve the content of a school project. Projects Abroad has many placements that complement undergraduate studies. If you studying Ecology or Geography you could volunteer on a Conservation & Environment Project; if you are majoring in English or Media Studies you could join us on a Journalism Project.

We also run highly-specialized University Dissertation Projects. These are designed to meet the needs of your individual dissertation or thesis, and we can provide all the support you need to help you gain a wealth of primary source information.

Projects Abroad placements can easily be fit into your plans as a college student. You can choose what you want to do, where you want to go, how long you want to volunteer for and when you want to start. We do not have a lengthy selection process and we won’t interview you. All we ask for is the name of a university professor or former coach or employer who we can approach for a reference.

Rebekah HargroveRebekah Hargrove - Teaching and Care & Community in Peru “I wanted to spend my summer vacation participating in public service, and Projects Abroad appealed to me because of its ability to let volunteers have a unique and individual experience. I liked the fact that Projects Abroad would be there for support, however I would be able to mold my summer to suit my goals and the people I would be helping. During my placement I taught English in a small Peruvian town to students ages eleven to twenty. The students had a genuine desire to learn English, and I thoroughly enjoyed teaching them. I taught my classes using all sorts of methods to increase the students’ vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, including posters, pictures, flashcards and Beatles songs! Having to teach and sing in front of a classroom has made me overcome my fear of being in front of a group of people with all eyes on me, skills that will be helpful for public speaking in my future. Thanks to Projects Abroad’s unwavering support I was able to teach the students English that they will be able to put to good use, pursue my own personal endeavors and enjoy a remarkable experience here in Peru. I have never second guessed my decision in choosing Projects Abroad as a volunteer program.”
