International Volunteer Work Helping in HIV/AIDS Centers Abroad
You can do really worthwhile volunteer work abroad by helping out on one of our HIV AIDS projects in Ghana or Nepal. Depending on where you go, you can spend your time overseas working to raise awareness about HIV AIDS or assisting in a care home with children affected by the epidemic.
Our Care projects will give you a unique chance to get involved in the local community and develop your own insights about how these conditions are dealt with overseas. Sharing your time and effort to further people’s education about HIV AIDS will be greatly appreciated and will help work towards the goal of prevention. You can expect to work anywhere between four to six hours a day on various activities depending on which country you go to. When working with children, be sure to bring enthusiasm and creativity to your project, as the kids are full of energy!
Volunteer Opportunities Abroad Working with Awareness Campaigns and Children with Projects Abroad
Ghana
In Ghana, Projects Abroad volunteers work in La General Hospital's HIV Clinic, which is located in the capital city of Accra. Our volunteers work in the Voluntary Counseling and Testing (V.C.T.) clinic during testing hours. This observational work provides volunteers with a cross-cultural experience in understanding how counseling is performed in Ghana vs. their home country. In addition to work in the clinic, volunteers also organize AIDS awareness campaigns and presentations around Accra. By spreading pamphlets, creating posters, and giving talks, volunteers increase knowledge about how to take preventative action and steps towards receiving treatment.
Nepal
In Nepal, we work with Manisha Singh Punarjeevan Niwas (MSPN). MSPN specially targets children under the age of 10 who have HIV AIDS. Volunteers working on this project will be caring for and supporting children who live at the center by feeding, playing, and perhaps even teaching some English to them. The children come with their parents and are kept for HIV AIDS treatment. In addition, volunteers will help out by educating the kids about nutritious diets and counselling them on HIV AIDS.
Volunteering on an HIV AIDS Project Overseas
Your work will vary depending on where you go and the center you’re placed in. Wherever you are, you will be helping people who suffer from HIV AIDS and/or raising awareness about the consequences of not taking preventative action. Your contribution to the community will assist those who face the epidemic on a day-to-day basis and will inform people who may not have received previous AIDS awareness education. Work on an AIDS/HIV project will prove to be a challenge, but highly rewarding.
