Volunteer and Intern in Medicine in Eastern Europe
Medical Volunteering in Eastern Europe has the potential to be incredibly rewarding because you will have the unique opportunity to learn about different cultures and do valuable volunteer work. For volunteers who are interested in medicine and healthcare there are medical internships in two different Eastern European countries – Moldova and Romania. Medical volunteering in Eastern Europe allows volunteers to work in local hospitals or clinics, where they can investigate medical topics they are passionate about.
Medical volunteers in Eastern Europe can possibly work in nursing, occupational therapy, dentistry or help with surgeries. Whatever you want to learn about there is an opportunity for you to get real-life experience that can be helpful in future academic or occupational pursuits.
"Work at the hospitals was very varied. Dr Topor organized my program so that I could have a variety of ‘hands on’ placements as well as time to observe and visit departments where I had no previous experience. I spent my first week in the oncology hospital where I helped make up and insert drips and venflons, give intramuscular injections, change bandages and transport patients between wards and theatre. In many places the medical staff are only too glad to have an extra pair of hands as they can be short-staffed at times, so if you are willing to learn and ‘muck in’ they are very grateful."

Medical Internship in Eastern Europe
Medical internships in Eastern Europe are filled with numerous opportunities for volunteers who are interested in medicine or want to work in a hospital or clinic. Volunteers who decide to participate in a medical internship in Eastern Europe will have the chance to see medical procedures, help in clinical and hospital work, and gain valuable experience. Medical interns will be given the unique chance to possibly get medical experience that many medical students in their second year of medical school still do not have. This medical knowledge could be very help for volunteers who wish to pursue a future in medicine.
"During my stay at this hospital I observed surgeries involving a cleft-lip, cyst removal from around the larynx, tumor removal from the lip, as well as surgeries dealing with the after-effects of burn incidents. I even assisted a doctor when she needed to stitch up a deep gash on a child’s forehead and assisted another doctor with a quick tongue operation. Despite some of the rather gruesome sights that I saw, I did learn a lot and the medical aspects of all the cases were very interesting."

High School and College Interns in Medicine in Eastern Europe
Pre-med students, high school students, medical school students, glide year students, and licensed doctors are all welcomed to participate in our medical internships in Eastern Europe. There are typically no education or academic requirements that volunteers need to meet in order to be considered for a medical internship in Eastern Europe. All that is required is a strong desire to help people and an interest in medicine. Since there are so many departments that medical interns can investigate in a hospital or clinic, they can get real-life experience in whatever medical subject interests them or that they find challenging.
"Many aspects of health care in Moldova are different to those in the UK, so it was a fantastic opportunity to observe techniques and procedures not commonly used at home. As I am interested in surgery I was given the opportunity to attend theatre several times per week in a number of different specialties. General anesthetic is used much less often in Moldova than in the UK and it was fascinating to observe the patient and nurses chatting during some fairly major operations!"
