Our programmes are about two things more than anything else, making a contribution and understanding at first hand a new culture. This second point is invaluable in the perspective on the real world that you gain through our programmes.

When Projects Abroad was founded in 1992 it aimed to bridge a gap with Eastern Europe that had grown over the Cold War, through suspicion and propaganda. Being able to understand another country’s point of view, beliefs and issues is a wonderful gift to have.

All our staff in Australia and New Zealand have volunteered overseas, when volunteers talk to us they are talking to people who have been through the same experiences. Our many part time ambassadors help us to explain what to expect and how to prepare. We are proud of the volunteering we did and enthusiastic in helping new volunteers make the most of their time away.

Ultimately we want volunteers to be proud of their experiences and that comes through them feeling the programmes are worthwhile, constructive and sustainable, something the organisation strives for every day in 25 developing countries
