Winter 2 weeks |
|
- Placement location: San Remigio and Bogo City, Cebu
- Types of placement: Schools and houses
- Accommodation: Host Families
- Age Requirements: 15-18 years old
High School Special volunteers on the Building placement will contribute to the renovation and/or building of houses and schools in areas that were affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which occurred in 2013, to enable an improved living and learning environment for locals.
You will work alongside a local builder, who will teach you all the necessary building and construction techniques, which are ideal for sites with limited facilities.
Daily activities include digging foundations, mixing and pouring cement, building a roof, assist with building toilets or putting the finishing coat of paint on the completed building. You will also spend time with the local people and visit schools where, after helping paint and clean the premises, you will read stories to the children and play educational games.
At the end of your two-week stay, you will be able to witness the finished project and see your building efforts come to fruition.
You live with a local host family, which provides unique insight into this fascinating country. They will welcome you into their home, where you will learn about Filipino culture first hand. At the weekend you will go on a trip with other volunteers and our local staff to Capitancillo Island, where you may snorkel. You’ll also enjoy cultural evenings in Bogo City.
