Care in Sri Lanka

Based in several small towns along the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, you will be working with your fellow volunteers in day care centres and kindergartens. There is a huge variety in the work available, however all the work has one basic requirement in common: a love of working with children.

Your role will vary from helping children learn the alphabet, organising arts and crafts activities, playing sports or reading with a child individually.

During your two weeks you will also get involved with some practical work such as painting and decorating a classroom, creating a lasting impact at the placement. This work is greatly appreciated by both the children and local staff.

You will live with a local host family, which allows you to be fully immersed in the Sri Lankan way of life.

During the weekend we will take you to visit a palm fringed beach that Sri Lanka is famous for or visit one of the spectacular ancient cities. Organised trips may include a visit to Galle, the Dutch Fort and Unuwatuna beach, as well as some of some markets and a traditional Kandyan dancing show. The trip to Kandy may take place during the week, with work continuing over the final weekend.
