Is studying Spanish in Mexico with a group right for me?

Planning a trip to Mexico? Instead of just relaxing on the beach at a resort in Cancun, you can opt for a more educational experience. Our Spanish Language Team Trip to Mexico gives you a culturally immersive adventure while giving you the opportunity to improve your language skills.

With Projects Abroad you’ll travel to Mexico with a group, and explore Guadalajara with people who share the same sense of wanderlust and adventure. Your group will be comprised of people hungry to get off the beaten path, and filled with curiosity about different world cultures and languages.

Together, you’ll spend time with native Spanish speakers to improve your Spanish speaking ability. Through classes and real-life language experience, your Spanish skills and understanding of Mexican culture will improve tenfold. Not only will you improve your language skills, but you’ll connect with a diverse range of people and beef up your CV.

You don’t need previous experience to join. Our staff and teachers will guide you through your schedule, and help you improve your Spanish, no matter what level you begin at.

This trip runs on fixed dates and has a set itinerary, which helps you make the most of your short time in Mexico.

The project runs all year round, you can start on any day, and it’s fully supervised. So all you need to do is decide on some dates, complete our application form with a £195 deposit and we’ll take care of the rest.

Receive Spanish lessons from a qualified teacher at a local language centre

Your lessons will be tailored according to your skill level by your teacher. During this time, you can focus on basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary, or work on your conversation.

Practice your Spanish by talking with local people

The most effective way to improve your Spanish is to surround yourself with Spanish speakers. We encourage you to speak to people you meet, and practice as much as possible with your host family.

When you find yourself a small local restaurant, order in Spanish, and try Guadalajara’s specialty dish: Torta Ahogadas. After all, the best way to really absorb a new language is to actively use it!

Participate in group outings that explore the city and culture

With our local staff, you and your group will attend the best shopping locations, dance classes, and museums! You’ll also have the time to do some independent exploration, and find your own favorite local spots.

Where in Mexico will I study?

Guadalajara

Our Spanish Language Team Trip to Mexico is based in Guadalajara, a historic city with plenty to explore.

Guadalaja is the second largest city in the country of Mexico. Founded in 1531, Guadalajara has a long and rich cultural history. During your exploration, you can find churches that date back to the early 17th Century. While in town, be sure to visit the Hopicio Cabanas, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

You’ll attend your Spanish classes at our office in downtown Guadalajara. When you start, you’ll get a language evaluation and have orientation. From there, classes based on your initial language skill level.

You’ll live in Guadalajara with a fully vetted host family. There, you will be treated (and fed) like you’re part of the family! Our in-country staff will be with you every step of the way as you get to know your surroundings. As soon as you get off your plane in Guadalajara, until you’re escorted to your departure flight, our staff will make sure that you can safely navigate the ins and outs of this historic city.

Airport pickup, flights and visas

When you arrive at your respective airport, a member of Projects Abroad staff will be there to meet you. You can find more detailed information on arrival airports, orientation, and visas on our Mexico Arrival Procedures page.

What is the goal of learning Spanish in Mexico?

The goal of this project is to help you learn Spanish while traveling and practicing your skills in a Spanish-speaking country.

Spanish is a widely spoken language, and absolutely invaluable if you want to travel to other Latin American countries and Spain in the future. Having this language skill will also be a great addition to your CV. Knowing a second language helps you stand out in applications and interviews, and could help you discover more professional opportunities.

Learning a new language or improving your conversation skills becomes a lot easier if you are able to surround yourself with native speakers. Since Spanish is the main language in Mexico, what better way to learn? So join us in Mexico soon!

Management plans

We set out the aims and objectives of our projects in documents called Management Plans. We use them to properly plan the work you’ll do. They also help us measure and evaluate our achievements and impact each year.

Ultimately, our Management Plans help us make our projects better. This in turn means you get to be part of something that makes a real impact where it’s needed. Read more about our Management Plans.

Measuring our impact

Our projects work towards clear long-term goals, with specific annual objectives. Every volunteer and intern we send to these projects helps us work towards these goals, no matter how long they spend on our projects.

Every year we take a step back and look at how much progress we've made towards these goals. We put together a Global Impact Report, which documents our achievements. Find out more about the impact our global community of volunteers, interns and staff make, and read the latest report.

Food and accommodation

You'll stay with a host family in Guadalajara. They will welcome you into their home, eager to share their customs and have you teach them about your own culture. We believe that this is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Mexico and have a truly unique experience.

We will always try to let you live alongside at least one other Projects Abroad volunteer or intern at the same host family. Your room will be modest, but comfortable, clean, and safe.

Your programme fee includes three meals a day.
