Human Rights & Spanish in Argentina

If you are passionate about human rights, have an interest in Spanish, and plan to pursue human rights work or law in the future, this project is perfect for you!

You’ll learn about the history and culture of Argentina and get involved in human rights issues at a grass roots level with the guidance of local social workers and our in-house lawyer. By working alongside people living in poor communities in Cordoba, you’ll gain a first-hand understanding of their daily lives and hurdles related to poverty, crime and xenophobia which must be overcome.

Volunteers help work with and learn how to support victims of human rights abuse or individuals in at-risk communities. Tasks may include educating disadvantaged children about social equality, working on a project advocating for homeless people, making young prisoners aware of their basic rights and conducting research on human rights cases.

Additional activities may include a visit to the detention centre, La Perla. Volunteers will get involved in campaigns covering diffrent human rights topics and will have the chance to speak with people to inform them about the issues.

Volunteers also receive daily Spanish lessons and will live with host families in Cordoba.

On the weekend volunteers usually visit some traditional villages in the hills. There may also be an opportunity to visit the house which once belonged to the famous Argentine socialist revolutionary, Che Guevara, as well as a trip to Dinosaurio Mall and La Cumbrecita.
