Clare & Paul Power - Care & Community in Cambodia
I wanted to write to thank you for all the support you and the staff at Projects Abroad gave to our daughter Veronica on her recent immersion trip to Cambodia.
As Veronica has not yet having turned 16, we were understandably a little uncertain when she first discussed her plans to go without us to a country none of us had ever visited before. However, the excellent information session was just the first of many initiatives and services organized by Projects Abroad which put our minds at ease. Any questions we had were answered to our satisfaction and any which came up following the information day were promptly answered by email.
During the lead up to the trip we were offered assistance with packing, immunisations, visas and flights, as well as cultural background information and the chance to link up with other participants from different areas. The fact that this particular trip was specifically designed for students in years 10 and 11 meant that we knew our daughter would be travelling with her peers in a very supportive environment.
Having contact details both in Australia and Cambodia meant that we were able to contact our daughter at any time. Even allowing for the time difference, the speed of response to any questions was wonderful.
Once Veronica left us she was looked after first by the flight staff then met at the airport by you and from there she was never alone! The girls stayed together in comfortable accommodation and knew what to expect each day. Working with and assisting the children and the staff at the orphanage was a great privilege for Veronica and she grew very fond of them!
The experience was very enriching for Veronica and we would highly recommend it to any young people looking to broaden their views of the world and be a part of making their world a better and more compassionate place. Not only was Veronica given an insight into the Cambodian culture – with visits to tourist spots and markets on days off – but she was also able to experience first hand the dire circumstances in which many people live. This experience has made her a much wiser and socially aware person.
Thank you personally for your generosity and willingness in looking after our daughter.
