  • Placement location: Nanyuki
  • Types of placements: Children’s Centre
  • Accommodation: Host Families
  • Age Requirements: 15-18 years old

Based in the town of Nanyuki in the heart of Laikipia County, this placement allows you to live with a local host family, immersing yourself in the traditional culture and helping to bring a smile to the faces of some of the vulnerable children in the local community.

Female volunteers work at an orphanage in Kenya.

During your time volunteering in Kenya you will work in a children's centre or kindergarten. Your day will be split between doing practical activities like building and renovating or painting and decorating to more care-based activities including running educational activities and playing with the children. Kenyan children love sport so volunteers are encouraged to get involved with outside games and activities including ball games, and maybe even a mini sports day.

In many of the care centres in Kenya a lack of staff and resources is evident. During your placement you and your fellow volunteers will be able to plan some fun and interactive educational activities to do with the children to encourage them to learn and also to give them the attention that so many of them need.

During the weekend you will get the opportunity to experience the fantastic scenery and spectacular wildlife of one of Kenya’s mystical forests or wildlife conservancies.

Those joining us on the four week programme will get extra visits and activities arranged during the other weekends.
