Volunteering on the Film Production placement
Volunteers who select this placement will work with a local youth training institute in Arusha. This organisation focuses on empowering and training young people in all aspects of filming, including editing, sound, design for audio-visual products, creative storytelling and film and television production. Students are taught a wide range of subjects including audio-visual production, social media and graphic design. Students will also be involved in the production of advertisements, documentaries and TV-shows for local clients. The income received from these projects help fund the educational portion of the project. As a volunteer, you will assist in all of these areas and help the students to produce their own films and television channels concerning different topics that have inspired them.
The training institute won two excellence awards in 2017 for their productions.
Every year approximately 45 students, aged 18 to 25, are selected to take part in a two-year training course. The course is free to local students from low-income families. Volunteers play a fundamental role when it comes to interacting with and helping to train these young people. Volunteers and local staff teach the students technical skills which increases their knowledge about the art of film making and the industry, as well as social skills, life skills and creative skills.
You will be encouraged to spend time with small groups of students and local staff and exchange ideas, skills and cultural differences. The aim of this placement is to equip students with the necessary skills in order for them to embrace opportunities that lie ahead.
Volunteers who would like to participate in this project must have completed at least one year of studies in film production, media or a closely related topic. If you are energetic, creative and have an open mind, you will gain valuable experience. Your time and help is greatly appreciated
