Learn Sinhalese in Sri Lanka
Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating Sri Lankan culture on one of our intensive Sinhalese Language Course projects.
Sinhala is the mother tongue of the Sinhalese people which make up the largest ethnic group in Sri Lanka. Sinhala is the official and national language of Sri Lanka and due to centuries of colonial rule, modern Sinhala contains many Portuguese, Dutch, and English cognates.
Lessons are with a local language teacher, are tailored to your personal level, and can be adapted to your interests. With accommodation in the home of a Sri Lankan family, you'll learn quickly and can practise what you've learned with your hosts each day.
There are two options when it comes to learning Sinhalese. You can choose to take part in an intensive standalone Language Course, where you will receive around 15 hours of tuition per week.
After completing your Sinhalese Language Course, you can also choose to spend time working on one of our Sri Lanka volunteer projects, such as Teaching or Care, and put your newly acquired language skills to use in a practical working environment.
Alternatively, you can choose to sign up for our 5-hour, 14-hour, or 30-hour Language Course add-ons, which run alongside your main volunteer project. These prices are in addition to your main project price. Please take a look at our Sri Lanka language prices for more information.
