Sports Volunteering Projects Abroad
You can get involved in sports volunteering with Projects Abroad. We offer projects coaching sports in schools, dedicated sports clubs, and community centres. These projects offer you the chance to improve your skills and pass on your passion for sport to children in the developing world.
Sport is a universal language, a shared passion and joy and a wonderful way to engage children in learning vital life skills, adopting a healthy lifestyle and building self-confidence as well as making friends for life.
Volunteers on our sports projects work in athletics, soccer and basketball among many other sports, sometimes with very talented groups and sometimes offering the most basic benefits of sports in the community; inclusion, opportunity and fun, regardless of ability.
Many of the sports projects allow volunteers to combine this work with teaching in the classroom, connecting with the children in different ways and giving a positive role model and encouragement to the children.
Projects are open to volunteers with all levels of ability; enthusiasm and organisation are as important as skills. These are worthwhile projects which give a lot back to the children that volunteers work with, creating opportunities which otherwise would not be there.
Some volunteers choose to focus on one sport, such as football, rugby, or cricket. Alternatively, you could choose to teach a variety of sports in a school or community sports club. Both options are available for anyone over the age of 16 and are perfect for a gap year, career break, or even a short-term volunteer placement during school holidays.
You do not need previous experience in order to get involved in sports coaching abroad. We can cater for volunteers of all levels of experience and you will be supervised by local coaches. If you do have coaching qualifications then you will be able to lead training sessions and pass on your knowledge to the local players and staff. However, whether you are a novice coach or a master tactician, the key requirement is enthusiasm!
"The programme really gave me a good opportunity to improve both my coaching and personal skills. This was largely due to the level of responsibility I was given. I also felt that support was always on hand if I encountered a problem. Consequently, I feel I achieved a lot during my placement."
