Volunteers on this project work at an animal day clinic, in Montego Bay, St. James, which has a qualified veterinarian on duty every day. This organisation has been active in Jamaica for more than a hundred years, working to protect animals from cruelty, neglect, injury and abandonment, and to defend animal rights.

Volunteering on an Animal Care Placement in Jamaica

Volunteers will take part in outreach field work, assist with administrative tasks, and participate in awareness campaigns against animal cruelty. The educational aspect of the project involves raising awareness in schools to educate children about the importance of caring properly for animals and providing information on how to report cases of abuse, neglect and cruelty. Teaching children from a young age about the value and responsibility of animal ownership is a vital part of improving the welfare of animals in the long-term.

If you are a registered veterinarian, there is also the opportunity to undertake clinical work at this placement.

You can join the Animal Care project in Jamaica for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
