Our Madagascar Care & Conservation Christmas Project is a structured two-week placement running during the festive season. Volunteers of any age are welcome to join, working together to make a positive impact in disadvantaged communities.
You will be based in the town of Andasibe, splitting your day between different Care and Conservation activities.
Care activities will include helping at a childcare centre operated by Projects Abroad, which is run for children unable to attend school. Volunteers will also help out in a local primary school, organising activities such as after-school clubs and sports games for the children in the community. You will get a chance to accompany students into the national park – teaching them more about animals, plants and local conservation efforts.
As part of the Conservation work, volunteers will spend time in a local national park helping to protect indigenous plants and monitor local species. This will be done through activities such as population studies, alien plant removal, park trail maintenance and working with endangered plants in the nursery. Volunteers will also assist with local-clean-ups, and run recycling initiatives and environmental awareness campaigns to help make Andasibe a greener town.
During your placement, you will live with a Madagascan host family, which is a wonderful way to learn about the local culture. On the weekends, volunteers will have the chance to explore this beautiful island, visit beaches, and take part in a number of fun activities, such as zip-lining, local dance lessons and cooking classes.
